David Cameron wins UK Parliamentary Elections

  • In the 2015 United Kingdom Parliamentary elections, Prime Minister David Cameron led Conservative Party has won the election. Conservative Party by winning 331 seats out of total 650 seats in House of Commons has emerged single largest party in this general election. Conservative Party received 36.9% vote share of the total national vote. With this win, David Cameron will become Prime Minister for second term. Labour Party has won 232 seats with 30.4% vote share, emerging as largest opposition party. Scottish National Party (SNP) has emerged third largest party in this election by winning 56 seats with 9% of vote share. SNP has won 56 seats of the 59 seats from Scotland.

Hamid Ansari releases a book entitled Unbelievable-Delhi to Islamabad

  • The Vice President of India Shri M. Hamid Ansari released a book entitled “Unbelievable “Delhi to Islamabad’ written by senior Advocate Prof. Bhim Singh at a function.

  • The book is an effort initiated by the lawyers of India and Pakistan to work jointly to ensure that the Pakistani prisoners languishing in Indian jails are treated in accordance with the spirit of the Constitution of India. Similarly, ensures that Indian prisoners in Pakistan are not denied fair trials.

EC to establish new campus of IIIDEM in Delhi

  • The Election Commission of India (ECI) will be establishing an independent campus of the India International Institute of Democracy and Election Management (IIIDEM) at Sector-13, Dwarka, New Delhi.

  • ECI has a requirement to train officials of the country for conducting elections of the largest democracy at different levels i.e. Parliament, State Assembly and Local Bodies.

  • Additionally, ECI has signed MoUs with other Election Management Bodies (EMBs) of the world for exchange and training their officials in election management.

  • Founded on 17 June 2011, the IIIDEM has been functioning from ECI’s Nirvachan Sadan premises. Ever since its inception, IIIDEM has developed as a specialized international Resource Centre for capacity development of electoral personnel, both national and international, on election management and democracy. So far, the IIIDEM has conducted over 100 training programs, and has trained over 3000 participants including international electoral personnel from more than 50 countries.

Union Government approves to setting up of Price Stabilization Fund

  • The Government has approved the setting up of a Price Stabilization Fund (PSF), as a Central Sector Scheme, with a corpus of Rs.500 crores, to support market interventions for price control of perishable agri-horticultural commodities during 2014-15 to 2016-17. Initially the fund is proposed to be used for market interventions for onion and potato only.

  • PSF Scheme provides for advancing interest free loan to State Governments/Union Territories(UTs) and Central agencies to support their working capital and other expenses on procurement and distribution interventions for such commodities.

Google open its first Google campus in South Korea

  • Google formally opened its first Asian start-up “campus” in Seoul for a new generation of tech entrepreneurs. Opened by President Park Geun-Hye, Campus Seoul is housed in the capital’s upscale Gangnam district which has become a focal point for the Korean start-up community.

  • As well as providing a space for people to work and network, it offers mentoring and training by Google teams and experienced entrepreneurs, as well as access to other start-up communities in Asia and beyond.

  • It’s a point that has been touted as tipping for some time, nudged by a highly educated, hard-working community in a country with some of the world’s fastest broadband speeds and highest smartphone penetration rates.
