::National:

LOGO for Internal Day of Yoga launched

  • Smt. Sushma Swaraj, Union Minister for External Affairs launched the logo for International Day of Yoga here today. The logo was selected by the Committee of Yoga experts constituted by Ministry of AYUSH and has been approved by Hon’ble Prime Minister Sh. Narendra Modi.

  • Speaking on the occasion, MoS(IC) said that India will celebrate its 1st International Day of Yoga on 21st June, 2015 and various activities will be carried out all over the world to mark the occasion.

 

Union Government approves continuation of minimum pension of Rs 1000 per moth

  • The Union Cabinet gave its approval for continuation of the minimum pension of Rs. 1,000/- per month to the pensioners of Employees’ Pension Scheme, 1995 (EPS) beyond the financial year 2014-15 on perpetual basis. Currently, it is effective only upto March, 2015. The Cabinet also approved corresponding grant of continuous annual budgetary support for implementing the minimum pension which will be to the tune of Rs. 850 crore per year on a tapering basis.

  • Providing a minimum pension of Rs. 1000/- per month is an effort to provide meaningful subsistence to pensioners who have served in the organized sector. The present proposal is likely to benefit approximately 20 lakh pensioners under EPS, 1995.

::Science and Tech:

ISRO and DoLR ink a pact to develop Web Geo Portal and Mobile App

  • The Department of Space and Department of Land Resources (DoLR), Ministry of Rural Development signed an MoU on development of Web Geo Portal ‘Shrishti’ and Mobile App ‘Drishti’ for Monitoring of IWMP watersheds through Bhuvan.

  • The National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC), ISRO in partnership with DoLR is designing and developing the required technological interventions for the monitoring and evaluation of Integrated Watershed Management Programme (IWMP) watersheds through the Bhuvan Geo-Web portal -SRISHTI. In addition, a Mobile Application – DRISHTI has also been developed that will integrate field level activities and their monitoring with Bhuvan portal.

NCDC Cooperative excellence award 2014

  • Ministry of Agriculture has conferred National Cooperative Development Corporation Award for Cooperative Excellence – 2014 to the best performing primary cooperatives for their excellent performance to Utlou Weavers' Cooperative Society Limited (UWCSL).

  • National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC) is a statutory Corporation set up under an act of Parliament in March 1963 for developing rural economic activities through cooperatives. The NCDC Award for Cooperative Excellence is an initiative to encourage and give due recognition to those cooperatives who despite all odds, are able to sustain and work for development and prosperity of agrarian society. The Award is for inculcating a sense of achievement and spirit of cooperation and thus set an example for others to follow.

Indian Railways Bags Gold in Indian Senior Men National Hockey Championship

  • Indian Railway Hockey Team (Men) participated in 5th Hockey India Senior Men National Hockey Championship held at Pune from 16th to 29th April 2015 has won Gold Medal after defeating Uttar Pradesh in final with a score of 5-3.

  • Indian Railway Hockey Team (Men) had won Gold Medal on last occasion in the year 1997 by beating Tamilnadu.
